A bevvy a day keeps the doctor away

Apparently the oldest person in the world died this week, aged 115, as did the oldest person in England, 111. The fact that were both women is a mere aside.

The new oldest person in England, again a women, aged 113 attributes her longevity to "a customary sun-downer of brandy and ginger ale every day".

Now...while the actual drink isn't something I fancy, the philosophy behind it is surely something to be admired. It flies in the face of today's nanny-state guidance, sticks it to the health gurus and pretty much agrees with the view of most people, all over the world - a little bit of what you fancy does you good.

I'll raise my own sun-downer of vodka and ginger-beer to that !
